Mischief Theatre brings its multi award-winning ‘The Play That Goes Wrong‘ to the Princess Theatre on its 2018 tour. The show has been in the West End and Broadway for the past 4 years and has won a string of awards.

The Play That Goes Wrong takes the classic ‘murder at the country house’ format and puts it in the hands of of the expertly amateur Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, with little experience under their belts things could go awry, and they certainly do!

Even before the curtain officially  goes up cast members are promenading the bar and auditorium  looking for missing cast members and props and we’re not quite sure what to make of it… members of the audience are taken on stage to help with scenery and sweep the stage before Cornley’s director takes to the stage to open the show and welcome us with a comedic monologue that hints at the chaos to come.

What starts of as fast-paced slapstick gains momentum with immaculate comedy timing, eye-watering physical gags, fantastically engineered scenery that slowly but surely falls apart throughout the performance and builds to a crescendo of chaos! The japes don’t let up and by the interval our sides are aching and we’re wondering whether we can possibly laugh any more but it just goes on!!

This is just two hours of great comedy theatre, brilliantly written and capably acted and suitable for all ages and families. It works on two levels too, so make sure you read the ‘spoof’ programme within the programme, where the bios of the Cornley players give that extra dimension as the characters behind the characters of the Murder at Haversham Manor!

Performances continue nightly until Saturday 25 August with matinees Wednesday and Saturday.
